The car hauler service you hire to transport your vehicle is very important when it comes to the care of your vehicle. However, protecting your vehicle doesn't start here. It's also important to properly prepare your vehicle for transport. Failure to correctly perform this process only increases the risk of damage to your vehicle. Make sure you know what to do.
Clean Your Vehicle
It's much harder to recognize damage when a vehicle is covered in dust, dirt or other debris. Even when great care is exercised, it's not unheard of for a vehicle to be accidentally dented or scratched during the transport process. When your vehicle is dirty, you might miss this damage. When you clean your car beforehand, it will make spotting any issues easier once your vehicle arrives at its destination.
Skip The Fuel Up
There is no need to fill up your vehicle before transport. During a haul, a vehicle with a full fuel tank only causes more harm than good. First, this only increases the weight of your vehicle. The heavier your vehicle, the greater the risk of damage to it. Just leave a little fuel in the vehicle in case the haul provider needs to drive the vehicle during transport for some reason.
Inspect For Leaks
Take a few moments to inspect for a fluid leak. Most car haulers will not transport a vehicle that is leaking fluid as it not only increases the risk for damage to the other vehicles being transported, but it also comes along with a number of safety hazards. It's best to check for leaks at least several days, if not a week, before transport so that you have time to address the issue with a mechanic rather than waiting until the last minute to find out your vehicle can't be transported.
Remove Accessories
Most car haulers are designed to accommodate the size of a vehicle based on the original manufacturer specifications. A number of custom accessories increase the amount of space necessary to accommodate the vehicle. When you leave these accessories on, you only increase the risk of them being damaged. Additionally, some insurance policies won't cover the cost of damage to custom accessories and parts. It's best to remove them to stay on the safe side.
