Tips To Navigate Your Flight Out Of Denver International Airport

Posted on: 13 May 2016

If you have a business trip scheduled that involves flying out of Denver at the end of your trip, then you should know that Denver International Airport is the largest airport in the United States. The airport may be extremely confusing to navigate, especially since it  sits on top of over 52 square miles of land. The airport also has multiple levels and concourses. If you want to make it to your gate on time so you can fly out of Denver, then keep reading to learn about a few airport navigation tips.

Hire A Transportation Service

With more and more people using services like Uber, it may not seem cost effective to use an airport transportation service or a taxi to take you from your hotel to the airport. This may seem true, especially if you are only a few miles away. However, an Uber driver may not be able to use the commercial level at the Denver airport to drop you off. You may need to be dropped off at the upper level of the airport instead. This is where curbside check-in, as well as ticketing, is located. This area of the airport can be extremely busy and you may want to skip the crowds, especially if you do not have bags to check. Being dropped off at the commercial level can allow for easier navigation into the airport.

Also, an airport transportation service will know whether you need to go to the east or west terminal based on the airline you are using to travel. An inexperienced driver may not know this and drop you off at the wrong side of the airport.

If you do decide to use an airport transportation service (such as Coastal Connection Transportation), you will still need to make sure that you give yourself enough time to get to the airport. The transportation service may need to drive along a major Denver highway to get you to the airport. Congestion may cause traffic concerns, especially if you are being transported to the airport close to rush hour. The transportation service should be able to give you a good estimate of when a pickup should be arranged based on your location and flight time.

Prepare For Security

Thousands of people move through the Denver airport on a daily basis. If the airport is particularly busy, then the security line may be incredibly long. This means that you should be prepared to get through the security check as quickly as possible. Some busy airports are now using drug-sniffing dogs to help quicken the security process. If you do not travel much, then this experience may be new to you. You will likely be asked to shift to the side of the security aisle. Make sure to pay attention, move in the right direction, and refrain from petting the dog. Petting a working animal is considered rude and it may distract the dog from what he is trying to do.

Also, make sure to have your identification and ticket ready before reaching security. Empty all pockets and place all belongings on the x-ray conveyor. Throw out any liquids you may be drinking during your wait, remove your laptop from its case, and remember to take off your shoes and belt. These are just a few tips to help you get through security quickly.
