First Cab Ride For Your Little One? 4 Tips To Make The Ride Less Stressful

Posted on: 28 April 2016

You're taking your little one out of town and you'll be using a taxi. If this will be the first time you take your little one in a cab, there are a few things you should know.

Call for the Cab

Even if you're used to standing curbside to hail a cab, you should avoid that practice if you have a little one with you. This is particularly true if you're going to be in a busy city, or need a cab during rush hour. Take the time to call ahead and schedule a pickup. This will allow you to stay inside with your little one until the cab arrives. It will also prevent a prolonged wait time at the street while you try to hail a cab in traffic.

Prepare for the Child Safety Seat

Depending on the state you'll be traveling to, you may be required to have a child safety seat for your child during the cab ride. While taxis are exempt from child safety seat laws in some states, other states will require you to have your child in a safety seat during each cab ride. For instance, California requires that all children ride in safety seats until they're either 6 years old or 60 pounds. To be on the safe side, you should be sure to bring your child's safety seat with you.

Keep the Door Open

It may take you a few minutes to get your child situated in the cab, especially if you're putting them into a safety seat. While you're putting your child in their seat, be sure to keep the cab door open. While you might think it would be safer to shut the door, you may inadvertently signal to the cab driver that it's safe to leave. For most cab drivers, shutting the door is a signal that it's time to leave. Avoid taking off while your child is still unrestrained. Wait to shut the door until your child is safely locked in their seat.

Dress in Layers

You never know what the temperature is going to be like inside the taxi. Be prepared for any temperature variances by dressing your little one in layers for the cab ride. If it starts to get warm, you can always remove the outer layers. Keeping your little one the right temperature can help prevent crying during the ride.

If this is going to be your little ones first cab ride, be prepared. The suggestions provided above will help you and your little one have an enjoyable ride together. To learn more, contact a taxi company like Union Taxi
